Prof Nicholas Oguge

Director

Prof Nicholas Oguge is a multidisciplinary leader with over 30 years driving innovation at the nexus of environmental governance, policy reform, and community-based enterprise. Founder of the Ecological Society for Eastern Africa and co-creator of the Billion Dollar Business Alliance to scale rainwater harvesting for food security. Specializes in catalyzing nature-positive innovations, building coalitions across public-private sectors, and nurturing entrepreneurship in climate resilience, green jobs, and ecosystem stewardship.

His entrepreneurial initiatives and partnerships include (i) Billion Dollar Business Alliance (2017): Scaled rainwater harvesting innovations with ICRAF, KCB, and WFP; (ii) GECKO Program: Led green innovation support for SMEs (2018-2020); (iii) Developed resilience business models in Kenya’s drylands; (iv) Strategic planner for Earthwatch, Rotary Westlands, and ecological societies; and (v) Advisor to UNEP, IDRC, Clean Air Fund, and FCDO on insurance and adaptation innovation.

His core competencies include (i) co-creation of scalable climate-smart innovations, (ii) strategic planning and ecosystem-based entrepreneurship, (iii) policy-enterprise integration in water, biodiversity and carbon markets, (iv) stakeholder mobilization and public-private partnerships, and (v) mentorship in green innovation and social enterprise.
